Hey everyone! Hope you are all enjoying this month so far! With December upon us and you know what right around the corner, I was delighted to once again be asked to take part in Kristy’s cookie swap party. It’s been a crazy month around here and I’m excited to share more in the New Year, but these days have been amazing and I’m feeling rested, well, and inspired. I hope you are all calmly enjoying this time — starting with a few treats like these! Continue reading

Sometimes you don’t realize your own strength until you come face to face with your greatest weakness.

Wow! It seems insane that it’s been so long since I posted, and I’ve not much to say other than, “really, more than a whole week since the last post?”. Yeah, that sounds lame I know. And trust me it is! I’ve shared before that things get busy, and it’s a wonder we get what we get done in a day, but the truth is, no matter how busy, everything can get done if we really want it to. It just depends on what we actually really want. I’ve had a few posts & photos locked and loaded for over a week and just ready to be written, but, I just couldn’t do it. I could go on about all the things that have been happening, but the truth is just this: I’m going through some pretty major (and crazy exciting) stuff. In fact, it seems folks all around me are too and I am not the only one these days who is being called on to do some serious work to find out just what we really want out of life. It could just be me and the folks I know, but is anyone out there experiencing the excitement and pressures of growth and expansion? Continue reading

When it comes to food, it’s amazing how tastes can change over the years. It’s not always the case, but many a childhood ‘ewe’ or ‘yuck’ will fall by the wayside through the years, as our palates develop, and as I like to call it, mature. Hopefully this maturation progresses alongside the rest of our beings too, and while I would never judge anyone who kept their childlike tendencies for as long as they could, I might raise a well-plucked eyebrow if, at 40 years old, you still haven’t ventured out to see if you’ve grown past your eight year old self in food tastes. You know, to actually realize mushrooms taste magical and those green peas your Gramma overcooked are actually tiny morsels of heaven when picked fresh from the garden? Yeah, those things. If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there’d be peace.

When it comes to tofu, there is one thing my siblings and I had a lot of growing up, and that was my mom & dad’s famous tamari fried tofu in the ever-loved and very well used cast iron fry pan that got used I think more frequently than tooth brushes in our household. This is not to say that we weren’t good teeth brushers (we were), but with both parents home for the bulk of our childhood years, came the much added bonus of enjoying home cooking an awful lot. Logic will get you from A to Z; imagination will get you everywhere.

As I sit here and write this today it is surely almost impossible to believe that this year is quickly and surely coming almost to a close. Here I am, on the morning of yet another Halloween, and while I’m not a huge Halloween fan (never have been), I can’t help but look back fondly at all the years of costumes and pumpkin carving that has flown by just way, way, way too quickly. Continue reading
